People are living longer (‘The Grey Revolution' is the term used to emphasise the gradual increase in the proportion of elderly people in the world population, especially in what are termed the developed countries). Faced with this reality, what one needs is to age as successfully as possible; this is a realistic objective, not a utopian one, as this work proposes to show.

CORNELIU GIURGEA, doctor in medicine of the University of Bucharest, has lived in Belgium for more than 30 years, and is Emeritus Professor at the Catholic University of Louvain and Scientific Adviser to UCB. The contribution of Professor Giurgea’s group to the subject of brain ageing is connected in particular with the discovery and development of the new class of drugs for the brain, the nootropics.
