The different types of change, and the various ways of dealing with them, are described in Chapters 1 to 6. Because there are different situations, and different choices that can be made, Ihere is a great deal to think about.

Chapter 7 provides a form of decision path, to help lead cjuickly to the appropriate approach. It may be read first if desired, although the detailed explanations and definitions .ippear in the preceding chapters.

Although my own experience lies behind this book, and the presentation of the approaches is my own, it owes much to the concepts developed by others. I found inspiration in all the books and articles quoted in the reading list, and should particularly like to acknowledge a debt to the work of Noel Tichy and Mary Anne Devanna, whose concepts of the Iransformational leader stand behind much of the modem writing on leadership, and are the foundation on which my l' ASIER model is built.
